The Bower Bird Nest was inspired by the bird’s unusual mating ritual. To attract a mate, the male bower bird contructs an elaborate structure out of found objects, arranging them according to their colour. The installation was made in collaboration with six other artists: Giorgia Clayton, Therese Luo, Olga Paczka, Alice Violet Popplewell, Laura Roberts and Victoria Vivarelli Colonna.
We gathered objects from the surrounding landscape, including scraps from an internet wire factory, and worked together to build a working nest in the gardens of Villa Borghese, Rome. Visitors were encouraged to read the nest’s map and add or take away objects as they pleased. Where possible, all materials were recycled after the exhibition.
The work was made for 16th edition of
La Conserva della Neve, 2018.
